A Sanctuary for Tantric Guidance
Books & Music for the Tantric Soul
In my journey I have turned to an ever growing number of healers and mentors for advice, support, and sometimes hard lessons. Still with all of the external education, there are times when self learning is just the right approach.
As your esoteric practices grow and change, you will find yourself always on the search for new inspiration! Old music feels stale and the same old books you have been reading seem to have a dusty lense. These are some of my favorite artisans of language and sound. I always welcome your suggestions as well!
Books
Osho.
This book is for those who love the history and art of Tantra. Amongst the wide variety of meditations you will always find words to inpsire you. The Book of Secrets is great to pick up and read for just a few lines or to get lost in the pages of esoteric goodness.
Catherine MacCounn.
"On Becoming an Alchemist: A Guide for the Modern Magician"
This book is an amazing summary of the magic of alchemy and how to bring it into your life today. Not content to be general and reach as many people as possible, MacCounn is bold in her suggestions and methodology. I haven't been able to keep this on my shelf because I keep giving copies away!
Mantak Chia.
"Healing Love through the Tao: Cultivating Female Sexual Energy"
"Healing Love through the Tao: Cultivating Male Sexual Energy"
These two masterpieces are for sacred sexuality nerds! If you can ingest all of the technical practices and bring them into your life, you surely won't be disappointed. I always come back to these books in both my personal and professional practices. The author is truly a master of his art.
Nik Douglas & Penny Slinger.
"Sexual Secrets: The Alchemy of Ecstasy"
This collection of teachings is one of the most visually unique and mystical books in my collection. Like The Book of Secrets, the writings of Douglas and Slinger can be brought into your practice as tidbits of information or they can easily capture your attention for hours. The authors keep their text true to the traditions of Tantra. For those who prefer tradition.
Barbara Carellas.
"Urban Tantra"
Unlike Douglas and Slinger, this book is all about translating tantric teachings to a modern context. I love this book simply for her light energy and clever take on the work. This author doesn't worry about the purists, she holds space for the evolution of sacred sexual practice for an ever changing cultural background.
Rachel Pollack.
"Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom: A Book of Tarot"
This is a classic text on the Tarot. As popular as Pollack's artistic descriptions of the tarot cards are, I have never seen anyone describe them quite like her. With a base of great esoteric knowledge, she takes you on a grounded yet whimsical journey through the deck.
Maureen Lockhart.
"The Subtle Energy Body: The Complete Guide"
This one. This book! I love it. For a practitioner of subtle energy work, this book has always been an amazing reference for global perspectives on the art understanding divine energies in our life. She breaks the book down into Eastern and Western concepts that are easy to read and understand. If you just want to know as much as you can, this is an excellent text book to start.
Margot Anand.
These are important texts in the history and background of western sacred sexuality. Though they aren't my favorite beacause of some of the babyboomer images and perspectives, I have to include them in any list of texts that have shaped my practice. Read a few reviews for yourself and get an idea if they are for you!
